Why Muladhara

In yoga and Ayurveda, Prana is the energetic force that circulates through our energy body. The chakra system is a structure of subtle energy pathways which acts as intersections between our physical, emotional, mental, instinctual and spiritual dimensions.

The main energy centres in this system are called chakras. They are believed to maintain a harmonious balance that preserves and restores overall health.

The first and vital force of energy is the Muladhara chakra.

It is also called the root chakra, it helps in recognising our strong connection to the Earth and, keeping us rooted to our inner self, it spreads positivity and happiness in life.

It relates to our basic primal needs of survival, stability and support. When the Muladhara chakra is balanced the person experiences stability, confidence, energy and strength. A balanced root chakra can provide emotional strength like letting go of fear and anxiety. This results in feeling grounded and secure.

The transition to motherhood and parenthood can be a very challenging and tumultuous time, it is easy for new parents to feel emotionally vulnerable and physically fragile.

Unfortunately, it is common for new parents to feel unsupported and disempowered, especially in our modern Western society where nuclear families are more common than extended families.

In my work with new mothers and parents, as a postnatal doula, infant feeding counsellor and perinatal yoga teacher, I hope to help them feel more supported, grounded and help them step into their new roles with confidence and satisfaction.

My aim is to nurture the family, to help parents tune into their inner voice and parental instincts, to support them in the transition to parenthood and find their new harmonious balance.

"Becoming a mother leaves no woman as it found her. It unravels and re-weaves her; cracks her open; takes her to her edges. It’s both beautiful and brutal; often at the same time.'
